admit it, we've all done it before. sure its unsafe to adjust aperture & shutter speed while in a moving vehicle, but thats why they invented dummy settings on cameras. for dummies that want to drive and shoot at the same time!

33/365 - beer & chicken

thirty three // three six five
11 26 2008
what started as an evening of wine shopping (to fill up my depleted collection), beer & fried chicken turned into an evening w/ shots of weird korean raspberry wine, a celebration of the freshly released 2008 beaujolais nouveau, rocky IV and wii golf. somewhere in between, i managed to get drunk and had to be convinced by kelvin not to attempt to walk, read stumble, home while carrying two bags of cali cabs. thx kel, cause thats a friggin long walk of shame home.

read all about the beaujolais nouveaus festivities here. according to the crazy frenchman, its a huge deal in france and reason for all the college kids to get drunk.

32/365 - time to be schooled.

thirty two // three six five
11 25 2008
just not feeling it with my shots lately. the raw images i've been processing contain lots of noise. perhaps its the ISO setting i'm using or i'm just not sharpening the raw files enough. either way, its time to get home-schooled. hopefully the images to come will be better. =/

*as an update, those earrings were probably real since the seller wants me to mail them back. the seller, of course, is quite grateful and i've been quite lazy in dragging myself to the post office. but soon, very soon.

27/365 - free shipping? great! free diamonds? EERRRHH?!?

twenty seven // three six five
11 20 2008
so in my effort to amass an arsenal of lenses, affordably.. i've taken to eBay as my camera market. purchasing used lenses is a great way of, well.. keeping more coin in the wallet.

i picked up this great sigma 30mm f/1.4 a few weeks ago in immaculate condition with original box, case, manuals etc for a great price + free shipping, ok? as it turns out.. i got a bit more as well.

i was inspecting the soft case and realized the cushion on the bottom is actually removable (didnt know that before) i take it out and something falls onto my desk. i take a closer look at what appears to be a pair of gold earnings with

14 tiny little diamonds on each. free shipping + a pair of diamond gold earrings?

you'll be happy to know that i'll be emailing the seller to notify her of my discovery.. ill keep you posted.

26/365 - brains of the operation

twenty six // three six five
11 19 2008
let's take a moment to meet the guys responsible for this blog. this behind the scenes crew is really the brains behind the whole operation and deserve all the credit for the awards and accolades. without them, this blog would merely be a collection of blurry obscure images (like the post from two days ago).

without further ado, let's meet the band! -- on the drums we have the canon 17-85mm IS f/4, on the bass is the sigma 10-20mm f/4 (borrowed from ivor!), on the guitar we have the sigma 30mm f/1.4 and at lead vocals the canon 30D.

having run out of water on the hike back toward the top of the grand canyon, it was only appropriate that kel and i both purchase commemorative grand canyon aluminum water bottles (imitation sigg bottles, call it what you will). i now carry that wherever i go.

on the subway? no water well? no worries! you have your aluminum water bottle. for some reason, my coworker cracks up whenever i take it out.. i guess its cause i've since forgone using paper cups (i'm so green) and was totin' this around all day. so i whip it out to drink on the subway and again she cracks up.. so i have her take a photo w/ my phone.

twenty three // three six five
11 16 2008
officially back from vacation, its time to get to work... on my photos! i was at my desk editing photos throughout most of the day aside from a brief jaunt to the mall.

didn't shoot at all today so decided nothing would be more fitting for my photo-du-jour than a shot of me touching up what could be my favorite shot of the trip (minus the me of course, as i was behind the camera).

here's the album of our hike:

19.5/365 - fulfilled

nineteen point five // three six five
11 12 2008

the canyon is so grand, it deserves two posts today.

so after the sunrise we headed down the South Kaibab trail for a
'quick' hike to the Colorado river. the South Kaibab trail is supposed to be one of the more challenging and steeper trails....8 1/2 hours, 13.4 miles and nearly 10
thousand feet in descending and ascending later, I can check off 'hike
grand canyon from rim to river and back in one day' off my to-do list.

several notes about the day. at the start of the hike, the park ranger
repeatedly warned against going to the river -- saying it is
incredibly challenging and that we may not have enough sunlight on the
way up. after finishing the hike, we can say he was correct in his assessment. so we ran out of water and food on the way back up with almost
3 hours of hiking up the canyon left. thoughts of going macgyver on
the cacti were running rampant through my head. second, we were
quickly running out of light with the sun having already set and no
end to our hike in sight. macgyver pt ii: thinking of whether sleeping
behind large rocks would be warmer or behind a tree and if I should
sleep with my sunglasses on so bugs won't invade my eyeballs. luckily
we got back to the trailhead not a minute too soon, it was nearly pitch
black as we sat to catch our breath.

needless to say, didn't have much of a chance to shoot the sunset with
my camera as I was too occupied with cactii, rocks, trees and bugs. I
did manage to snap this with my phone.

enjoy cause although we suffered tremendously, we certainly enjoyed
the experience!

taking in the sunset at the hoover dam. it's quite a structure, much like an extremely scary water slide to immediate death.
i'm currently 7.2 miles away from the grandest canyon of them all. looking forward to an attempt to hike to the river tomorrow bright and early!

17/365 - delayed

seventeen // three six five

11 10 2008

my connecting flight is delayed by 3 hrs. my only lifeline to the outside world is telling me it only has "20%" to live. so now I'm sitting on the floor at Dallas airport sucking the lifeblood from the wall. while my lifeline refuels, this has been my view for the past hour. neither glamorous or exciting, just a sore derriere from being camped on the floor. if only i had a top hat with me, i could collect some change while juicing up the phone too.

*hats off to the airport janitors for shining the floors so well and letting me get some cool reflected colors.

no worries, i'll be burning those calories real soon when i hike the grand canyon to the the colorado river next week!
